The end of semester is approaching and students are busy studying for their finals, which is supposed to be a good thing, except that they sometimes skip classes to do their exam studying. Ironically, those students are often the ones who really need to attend every class.
Teach Kids to Manage Time
I myself had tons of classes when I was little, ballet class, English class, piano class, even calligraphy class. My schedule wasn’t any easier than students’ nowadays. I rarely missed a single lesson because of school exams. One thing that I learned from my parents is that having school exams is not a legitimate reason to be absent from class. It just highlights a poor ability of time management since the exam schedule is issued at the very beginning of every semester and the class schedule has been fixed.
Classes DO Matter
Unfortunately, it seems most students, parents as well, believe that exams trump classes. Some parents are even pleased that their kids show the motivation to study, not knowing that they are sending out the wrong message – the process of studying and the commitment of attending classes are not important compared to performing well on school exams.
Just Change That Attitude
I think the really question here is: Do we want our children to leave all the work until the last minute and do a mediocre job? Or do we teach them to use the time well and do a great job? So help them to get the idea that they want to perform well and teach them to make better use of their time. Working out a proper schedule with them will certainly help. You’ll be surprised how much they can achieve with just a simple change of attitude.
