I know a young student who

I know a smart student who swallowed a book;
I don’t know why she swallowed a book;
Perhaps she’ll cry.

I know a smart student who swallowed a sentence;
That rambled and rambled and rambled inside her;
She swallowed the sentence to catch the book;
I don’t know why she swallowed a book;
Perhaps she’ll cry.

I know a smart student who swallowed a clause;
I have no idea why that was, because …
She swallowed a clause to make a sentence;

I know a smart student who swallowed a syllable!
That she did, I knew she was able!
She swallowed a syllable to catch the sentence;
She swallowed the sentence to catch the book;
I don’t know why she swallowed a book;
Perhaps she’ll cry.

I know a smart student who swallowed a letter
Cos she thought it’d make her better;
She swallowed a letter to catch syllable;
She swallowed a syllable to catch the sentence;
She swallowed the sentence to catch the book;
I don’t know why she swallowed a book;
Perhaps she’ll cry.

I know a smart student who swallowed a schwa!

That’s a mistake she’ll never make – ah!
